  1. Cream the butter with 1/2 cup sugar.
  2. Add the yolks, one at a time, together with the orange rind, beating constantly'.
  3. Add the flour and baking powder, alternating with the milk, stirring all the time.
  4. Add the semolina, and finally fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  5. Butter a baking pan and pour the batter into it.
  6. Bake in a moderate oven for 40 minutes.
  7. In the meantime, prepare the syrup. Boil the rest of the sugar in I 1/2 cups of water, to which the lemon juice has been added, for five minutes.
  8. Pour the syrup over the cake while it is still hot.
